The Ruth and Arnold Demarest Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Rhinebeck Firefighter Polly Walk-den High at the fire department’s annual meeting Dec. 14.
The $500-per-semester scholarship, established eight years ago, is presented annually to an active firefighter in the Rhinebeck Fire Department who maintains a grade average of 80 or better while in high school and who intends to continue on to college or specialized fields of higher education.
Walk-den High is enrolled with Childbirth International and upon completion of the program will be internationally certified as a Doula and childbirth educator. The award was presented by Katharine Hall and George Eighmy, both members of the fire department and lifelong friends of Ruth and Arnold Demarest.
