In back-to-back games out in California, the Bard College men’s basketball team did a split last week.
In the first game, Dec. 28, sophomore Siondueh Burnette (Lakeville, Mass.) scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Bard College men’s basketball team improved to 3-3 with a 70-54 victory over Pacifica University.
The Raptors jumped out to a 29-8 lead and never looked back, shooting 50 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes to grab a 45-21 lead at halftime.
Red Hook High School graduate Frank Stortini added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Lamar Powell (West Orange, N.J.) added 10 points and six rebounds.
Up next for Bard was a rematch with California Institute of Technology on Dec. 29. The last time these teams played, Caltech made national headlines by defeating Bard on Jan. 7, 2007, to snap an historic 207-game losing streak.
In this game, Caltech outscored Bard 5-0 over the final 1:51 to pull out a 60-59 win, snapping a 25-game losing streak. Caltech senior Michael Edwards (Canyon Country, Calif.) accounted for all five of those final points for the Beavers (1-10), and he stole an inbounds pass in the final seconds to secure the victory. Edwards scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second half.
Bard (3-4) got a career-high 16 points from Powell, while Stortini added 10 points and seven rebounds, and senior Jeremy Arnstein (Washington, D.C.) also added 10 points.
