Hyde Park woman killed in 3-car crash on Route 9G

A Hyde Park woman was killed and a town man was injured in a three-car accident Sept. 5 on Route 9G in Hyde Park.

According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 10:10am approximately ¼ mile north of Greentree Drive and involved cars whose sole occupant was the driver.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police report, indicated that a northbound vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, striking another vehicle head-on. That second vehicle turned sideways and was broadsided by the third vehicle, a truck carrying flammable liquid that did not rupture or leak after the accident.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the driver of the second vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, as Judith Hannigan, 66, of Hyde Park, who was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the northbound car, a 1994 Mercury Sable, was identified as Joseph Welch, 57, of Hyde Park. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 2003 Volvo flatbed, was identified as Douglas Redlich, 57, of Wynanskill, N.Y. He was unhurt. The truck is owned by Allied Building Products Corp of East Rutherford, N,J. and was carrying 20 55-gallon containers of Sil-ACT, a flammable liquid used in building materials. The containers were not compromised and did not rupture or leak after the accident, the sheriff’s report said.

Route 9G was closed between Greentree Drive, which is near the site of the former town police station, and Deer Hill Road until after 5pm while officials investigated the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Town of Hyde Park Police and Roosevelt Fire Department.
