The Red Hook Town Board authorized the final version of the Recreation Park Extension plan at its Aug. 14 meeting.
The master plan documents were subject to a State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process, and a public hearing was held in April as part of that process.
The new park, across Linden Avenue from the Rec Park, will include a pavilion, snack bar, pedestrian walking trails, four soccer fields, two baseball fields, and a parking area.
Supervisor Sue Crane said the engineering firm that prepared the plan, Wesson and Sampson, will send its CAD operator to the site with the consulting biologist for the project, Mike Nowicke, in order to prepare the wetland mitigation plan which is the first step of the multi-phase project.
The mitigation plan is required in order to receive a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the rest of the plan because two small, federally regulated wetland sites will be graded into playing fields, while a third larger wetland will remain intact.
Eventually, the town board, with the help of the recreation commission and the engineers, will design a phasing plan for the development of the park as funds become available.
