Brandt Griffing, 79, passed away on March 12, 2014, in Arcadia, Florida. The son of Raymond Baker Griffing and Lillian Mead, Brandt was born and raised in Red Hook, New York. He later moved to the town of Milan with his wife Patricia. A graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Brandt worked for IBM in Kingston, then later transferred to Florida. During a break in his career with IBM, Brandt and his family moved to Arcadia, Florida where Brandt taught at G Pierce Wood Memorial Hospital. After returning to work with IBM, Brandt lived for a period of time in the Bahamas commuting on weekends. Eventually resettling in Arcadia. Brandt retired as a mechanical engineer from IBM and went on to enjoy many years traveling all over the U.S. on a series of BMW motorcycles with friends and the BMW Riders Association. He is predeceased by his son Jules and ex-wife Patricia. He is survived by his daughter Tracy Young and husband Gary of Huntsville, Alabama; granddaughter Susie Holt and husband Steve of Pinellas Park, Florida and two great grandsons Riley and River. In addition, his memory and sense of adventure will be kept alive by his friends and BMW traveling companions, especially his honorary grandson, Zack Schmidgall, of Arcadia, Florida.
