Friday:

HS Girls Varsity Basketball plays John A. Coleman Catholic in the MHAL championship game at Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge at 6pm.

Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Op 70
The Bard College Conservatory of Music presents Felix Mendelssohn’s acclaimed oratorio Elijah, Op. 70, on Friday, February 17 and Saturday, February 18 at 8 p.m. in the Fisher Center’s Sosnoff Theater. The full-scale production features the “marvelously pure-toned and eloquent” (Boston Globe) baritone Sanford Sylvan as Elijah, with Leon Botstein, music director and conductor. James Bagwell, chorus master, will give pre-concert talks at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are by suggested donation: $20 orchestra seating; $15 parterre/first balcony; minimum donation $5. The concert is free to the Bard community with ID. All ticket sales benefit the Conservatory’s scholarship fund. “Men with Guns” screening with John Sayles
This Friday, February 17, 2012, starting at 7:00 pm at the James Ottway Film Center at Bard College, acclaimed writer and director John Sayles will introduce his film Men With Guns (1997, rated R), followed by a screening and question-and-answer session with him. This special event is open to the public, and is being sponsored by the Rhinebeck Interact Club, through the generosity of Mr. Sayles and Bard College. The suggested contribution for this screening and Q/A with John Sayles is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Saturday:

Join the Presidents’ Weekend Bird Count
9am till Noon. FDR was an avid bird watcher and you can count some of the same varieties of birds he observed at his Springwood home. Join NPS Education Volunteer Paul Adams in this free family-oriented, fun event. For reservations, please call 845-486-1966.

Presidents’ Day Weekend Author Talk & Signing
On Saturday, February 18, 2012 the FDR Presidential Library will host an author talk and book signing at 2:00 p.m. with Washington College Professor of History Richard Striner, author of Lincoln’s Way: How Six Great Presidents Created American Power.

Reception: 15 Artists from Ulster County exhibit
5pm – 7pm. An expanded reprise of the May 2011 show at the Brooklyn Artists Gym. The exhibition is curated by Peter Wallace and Christie Scheele. 22 E Market St & 6384 Mill St, Rhinebeck NY

Tavern Night at the Elmendorph
7pm – 10pm. Featuring The Acoustic Medicine Variety Show with live music by Amy Labor, David Kraai, Summer Corrie and Moss Meredith. $10 entry fee: good for 2 beverages and snacks. Pizza sold separately.

Sunday:

Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society Gala
The Elmendorph Inn, Red Hook. 3-5 p.m. Feb. 19. Society will host its 2012 gala benefit. The Arabesque Trio will perform a concert of Spanish music followed by tapas and other Spanish delicacies and wine. There will also be a silent auction. $35, donation.
