Particularly in these economic times, he added.
“Four years ago, our [village] tax base was at $208 million, then $201 million as the real estate market trailed off, then last year it was $191 million and change, and this year it is still around $191 million,” he said. “That’s what we tell all our departments… that’s the reality. We can’t get bigger just for the sake of getting bigger.”
According to the budget, salaries for the village board remain unchanged, at $3,000 for the mayor and $2,000 for each of the four trustees, with $6,000 health care buyouts or contributions available for each.
