From Mozart to Lennon

From opera to the Beatles, from historical costumes to clay, there’s a variety of activities over the next two weeks to appeal to people of all ages. And from high art to fun with a children’s illustrator, you can find something special for the young and the young-at-heart.

Find your inner child from an earlier century: It’s Children’s Play Day at Clermont State Historical Site (1 Clermont Rd., Germantown) on Saturday, June 23, from 11am to 1pm. Learn how children lived 200 years ago. Try on historical clothes and play games. Activities are recommended for children ages 6 to 12, and the program is free of charge. Reading is fundamental: The FDR Presidential Library (4079 Albany Post Rd. Hyde Park) will present the 9th Annual Roosevelt Reading Festival on Saturday, June 23, from 9:45am to 5pm. Throughout the day, 15 authors of recently published works that draw upon the Roosevelt Library archives will present talks followed by book signings. Author David Schuyler will be appearing at Oblong Books and Music (6422 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck) on Saturday, June 23 at 7:30pm to sign and discuss his book, “Sanctified Landscape.” In it, Schuyler writes about the Hudson River Valley as the first iconic American landscape and the way artists and writers of the 19th and early 20th centuries idealized the landscape. Enjoy a little opera: The Moviehouse (48 Main St., Millerton) presents The Metropolitan Opera Live HD Encore: Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 27. Fabio Luisi conducts Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage’s new production, featuring an all-star cast including Marina Rebeka, Barbara Frittoli, Ramon Vargas and Luca Pisaroni.
