Kristofer Munn, founder and publisher of the Red Hook Observer, has announced another expansion of the bi-weekly newspaper.
Beginning with the August 1 issue, every resident in Rhinebeck and Rhinecliff will get the free local newspaper in their mailbox every other Wednesday. Residents in Red Hook, Milan and Tivoli have been getting the paper since its start-up in March.
In recognition of this latest expansion, the paper will be renamed The Observer.
“I think this is a natural footprint for a newspaper. We’ll be covering three towns, three villages and two school districts,” said Munn. “I think any further than that and you can’t deliver news that is truly local and meaningful.”
The addition of Rhinebeck will increase the direct mail delivery from 6,100 residential mailboxes to more than 9,600, with more than 1,000 businesses receiving it as well. That represents an overall circulation increase of more than 60 percent.
“The newspaper will now reach over 17,000 potential customers in one of the most desirable corners of Dutchess County,” Munn said. “That’s a huge combined income of about $750 million — a huge potential market for our advertisers who help support the local news.”
The Observer is an ad-supported newspaper, and copies will continue to be distributed to stores and government offices throughout the area to reach visitors, tourists and residents.
