John Sammut of 221 Cedar Heights Road had requested a variance to allow the side-yard setback of his property to be reduced from 50 feet to 21 feet. He plans to convert the existing two-car garage to conditioned living space, with a new two-car garage constructed 21 feet from the side lot line. The public hearing for the case was held on June 20, at which one neighbor testified in opposition to the change, while another testified in support.
On July 18, the Rhinebeck Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to grant the variance, finding that there would be no damage to the property value of the neighbors. Board Chairman Michael West said after the vote, “No harm, no foul.”
