Reality’s setting in for Red Hook’s Raiders. After a promising blowout of Pine Plains to start the football season, Red was buzzsawed in its next two games, falling first to Marlboro 41-13 and then Sept. 14 to New Paltz, 39-9.
The Raiders struggled on both sides of the ball, scoring only in the fourth quarter against the Huguenots after the game was a foregone conclusion on a safety and a 12-yard pass from quarterback Lucas Brochetti to (who else?) Brandon Coleman.
Red had no answer for New Paltz’s dual backfield threats Khariff LaBoy and Darryl Clark. LaBoy ran 15 times, compiling 164 yards and three touchdowns, as well as an interception – Clark rushed 12 times, putting up a touchdown and 130 yards. New Paltz also scored on a 42-yard fake field goal run by Lincoln Kelly. New Paltz’s Hern Dumas also ran in an interception for a touchdown.
Red Hook falls to 1-2 overall with a 0-2 Section 9 Class B record. And Big Red doesn’t catch a break next Saturday when they face perennial foil Cornwall at 10:30am at Middletown.
