Rhinebeck Hawks volleyball team is cruising

“My team and I are adjusting well together,” said head volleyball coach Allie Ferretti. “This is a team effort — the girls and I are working together to make this a productive and successful season. There are always bumps in the road, but we rode them out and our season has a great outlook.”

The Hawks’ record sits at 4-2, the two losses coming from a very talented Spackenkill team, which beat Rhinebeck in straight sets, and Wallkill, who also beat the team in straight sets. Their wins have come against Saugerties, Marlboro, Newburgh, and Red Hook, who purple defeated in straight sets and Coach Ferretti says her team was “itching to play.”

Ferretti says that the team is gelling and that its recent success can’t be credited to just one player. “I do have some great talent on my team. All my underclassmen are proving to be valuable assets to the team and my upper classmen, too…. I can honestly say that each player contributes hugely to the team. Because we are so small, this is an important and valued quality we have. Everyone has a role and although some players are still learning their role, the team is forming nicely,” she says.

Rhinebeck also performed well in the pre-season Andy Bennett Tournament, winning every match until falling to a Port Jervis squad. In spite of the loss, Ferretti says that the tournament gave her a chance to evaluate her team.

“[It] was a great opportunity to see my girls in action and allow them to see how they work together,” says Ferretti. “I had the girls move around a lot throughout the tournament, they played in several different positions. I was able to pinpoint areas where we need work and areas where we can excel even more.”

Rhinebeck’s next big opponent will likely be a very aggressive Millbrook squad on Oct. 4. Their next home game will be tomorrow against Onteora at 4:15pm.
