Tivoli mayor seeks donations for Winterfest

Tivoli’s annual winter celebration will be missing a spark this year because funding for its fireworks has been cut from the village budget.

So Mayor Bryan F. Cranna is calling upon village residents and business owners for donations to support the Winterfest Celebration, which this year will be held on Dec. 8.

In a news release, Cranna said “The 2012-2013 operating budget that was adopted by the Board of Trustees eliminated funding for the village’s celebration line that in years past funded the popular Winterfest Celebration. The Board of Trustees and I had to make some very difficult decisions with regards to spending. As a result, certain lines were decreased greatly or in some instances zeroed out completely.”

He added, “The annual Winterfest Celebration has always culminated with a firework display that followed Tivoli’s tree lighting. … I am sorry to say that, without donations, the Village simply cannot carry the nearly $3,000 cost.”

And he noted, “At a time when I am denying certain purchase requests by the DPW and the Fire Department and Rescue Squad, funding firework displays and other previous popular events is not appropriate.”

Donations can be sent to the Village of Tivoli, PO Box 397, Tivoli, NY 12583. Any donations should reference the Winterfest Celebration. For more information, contact Village Hall at 845-757-2021.
