Bard women’s basketball still unbeaten

Freshman Tytravia Riley (Miami, Fla.) had 18 points and 19 rebounds in just 26 minutes as the Bard College women’s basketball team held off Elms College, 65-56, in a non-league game Dec. 1.

Bard’s 5-0 start is the best in the history of the program, according to college sports officials.

The Raptors were up early 10-0 and 15-2, and had a 10-point lead when Riley went to the bench with her third foul midway through the first half, a college press release noted. The Blazers (1-4) responded with an 11-1 run, tying the game at 28-28 with 44 seconds left in the half. Bard led, 31-28, at the break.

A pair of three-pointers in the first three minutes of the second half by junior Victoria Fleisher (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pushed Bard’s lead to eight. It eventually grew to 10, and Elms never got closer than six the rest of the way.

Elms sophomore Denisha Parks (Fall River, Mass.) led Elms with 22 points and nine rebounds; Jenna Oyler (Metuchen, N.J.) and JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) added 10 points apiece.

For Bard, Fleisher finished with 14 points and four rebounds, and senior Imani Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13 points and five rebounds.

The latest Bard win followed the team’s sound defeat of the College of New Rochelle, 60-35, in a non-conference matchup Nov. 28.

The Raptors were next scheduled to play at Albany Pharmacy Dec. 4 in another non-league matchup.
