Bard men’s basketball splits two games, stands at 2-3

St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn outscored the Bard College men’s basketball team 29-9 over a 12-minute span that bridged the first and second halves en route to a 75-58 non-league win on Dec. 4.

The Raptors played without top scorer Siondueh Burnette (Lakeville, Mass.), but it was still 22-20 in favor of the Bears (6-3) with 6:25 left in the first half. As St. Joseph’s heated up, Bard went cold, and six minutes into the second half, it was 51-29 and the game was over.

Sophomore Jose Canario (Middletown, N.Y.) led Bard with 13 points and five rebounds; Frank Stortini (Red Hook) added six points and 10 rebounds.

Up next for Bard was a home game against Sarah Lawrence College on Dec. 8.

Red Hook High School graduate Stortini had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Bard team cruised to the win, 86-22, in the non-league game. Bard raced out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. Sophomore Chris McNaughton (State College, Penn.) added 16 points, Lamar Powell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jeremy Arnstein (Washington, D.C.) added 11 points apiece, and Canario added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
