The head coach for Red Hook’s football team was arrested twice in connection with an alleged assault on his girlfriend and her son, according to state police reports.
William Stutz, 35, who lives in Milan, was first arrested on Jan. 5 and charged with assaulting his girlfriend and her 16-year-old son, who reportedly intervened in what state police called a domestic dispute. Stutz was charged with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, and second-degree harassment.
A court order of protection for the woman and her son was issued following the incident. Stutz posted $2,000 cash bail and was then released from jail. But, the police report, he then called his estranged girlfriend, violating the court order.
He was arrested again on Jan. 6 for violating the court order and charged with first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, and aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned in the Town of Milan Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond.
Stutz, who has been head coach of Red Hook football, is also a physical education teacher at Red Hook High School and Linden Ave Middle School.
According to Red Hook Superintendent of Schools Paul Finch, Stutz has been put on paid administrative leave.
“While innocent until proven guilty, we are obviously concerned about the criminal charges lodged against Mr. Stutz,” Finch told The Observer. “The district is in the process of gathering facts and determining options relative to his employment status.”
Stutz is due in court on Feb. 7.
