The Bulkeley Middle School in Rhinebeck is looking for its own “Top Chef.”
Like the television program, the fourth annual competition will feature aspiring chefs who compete for their shot at culinary stardom and the chance to earn the prestigious title, the school announced in a news release.
The competition will be held on Mon., Feb. 4, at the Middle School gymnasium from 6:30 to 8:00pm.
Entrants can compete in one of three categories; main dish/entrée, side dish, or dessert. Judges will include guest chefs from Terrapin, Garden Street Cafe, Gigi’s, and Calico restaurants in Rhinebeck, and Taste Budd’s in Red Hook, along with parents, and faculty members.
In addition to prizes in each category, winning entries will be submitted to the Rhinebeck Central School District’s Director of Food Services to be considered for addition to the menu offerings in the school cafeteria.
The Bulkeley Middle School Building Level Planning Team noted in the news release, “The purpose of this activity is to encourage healthy choices, balanced nutrition, serving size awareness, and label reading; to bridge students with members of the local culinary community, and to develop a sense of team work, bonding and community amongst students with a similar interest.”
