The Village of Red Hook has finalized a contract with National Metering Services, of Kearny, N.J., to replace all 827 water meters in the village. The $347,770 project will be funded by a U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development grant, and the new meters will come at no additional cost to water customers.
Residents of the village will need to coordinate a time with the contractor to have their new meters installed. The village provided contact information slips with recent water bills and is urging homeowners to return the slips with their next payment. The length of the project will depend on how quickly the contractor can find appointments that work for each residence. National Metering employees will be required to carry identification when calling on homes. A full list of the contractor’s employees is available at village hall.
The new meters are part of an ongoing project to improve the village’s aging water system. The project also includes well field improvements to increase overall capacity and new filtration systems to bring dormant wells back online.
