Lady Raiders clean up with final season win The Lady Raiders’ Senior Night loss against Marlboro was a heartbreaker, but it didn’t keep them down. In their final scheduled game of the regular season on Feb. 16, Red aced Burke Catholic on the road, 53-40. Julianna Wilkinson capped her monster season with another big game, pouring in 24 points on the night to lead all scorers.
Rhinebeck Lady Hawks lose to Spackenkill Feb. 12 Rhinebeck’s Lady Hawks dropped 45-38 to Spackenkill on Feb. 12. Samantha Cassatta and Rachel Tigges each had 12 points for the Lady Hawks, but a 12-1 run in the second quarter by Spackenkill buried Purple.
Lady Hawks clip Clippers, 46-16 on Feb. 15 The Lady Hawks beat Germantown by a mile in their home game Feb. 15.
Purple didn’t disappoint on Senior Night, clipping the Clippers 46-16. Three Lady Hawks, Samantha Cassata, Sydney Spencer, and Meredith Mimoso, who came off of an arm injury to play, scored in double digits. Cassata led all scorers with 17 points with three three-pointers.
Rhinebeck held the Clippers to 0 points in the first quarter, 3 in the fourth. The game was Rhinebeck’s second to last on the regular season, and their second matchup with Germantown in 2013 – they previously beat the Clippers 46-28 on Jan. 29.
Boys Basketball
Hawks lose to Spackenkill, 61-46 Rhinebeck’s Luke Matthews and Hunter Brandt were both deadly from beyond the arc on Feb. 12 at Spackenkill, but their contributions weren’t enough to save the basketball team from a 61-46 loss. Matthews and Hoynes both put down three three-pointers on the night. The Hawks came within four points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t pull ahead late. Nick Hoynes led Rhinebeck in scoring with 12 points.
Raiders lose to Marlboro, 61-47 Marlboro had Red Hook’s number in 2012-2013. The Lady Raiders’ basketball victory on Jan. 11 was Red’s only roundball win against Marlboro on the season. The Iron Dukes stayed in the zone against the Raiders on Feb. 12 in Marlboro, beating Red Hook 61-47. It was Red’s first loss in four games.
Men’s Basketball
Berkeley beats Bard, 82-70, in final game of basketball season Despite a furious second-half rally, Berkeley College of New Jersey held off Bard College, 82-70, in a non-league men’s basketball game Feb. 15.
It was the final game of the season—and the final game in the careers of Bard senior and Red Hook favorite Frank Stortini as well as Jeremy Arnstein (Washington, D.C.).
Bard, 4-21, made just 1-of-13 three-pointers in the first half and trailed, 36-27, at halftime. The lead ballooned to 16 in the first four minutes of the second half before Bard started hitting three-pointers.
