Tivoli Village court clerk Barbara Melinsky applied for and was awarded a $5,000 grant from the New York State Justice Court Assistance Program.
The money will be used to replace the chairs in the village courtroom and for a new air conditioner in the courtroom.
At the Feb. 20 Board of Trustees meeting, Joel Griffith noted that many of the chairs are so old that he has repaired them himself.
While processing the grant, the state apparently noticed that Tivoli is due to receive a new computer for its court system. The new computer will be transferred from the state Department of Technology and will replace the one at the Court Clerkâs desk.
The Board of Trustees congratulated Melinsky on her initiative in applying to the program.
The New York State JCAP was created by the State Legislature in 1999 to provide small municipal courts with needed funding.
