Camp scholarships nearing deadline

The deadline for two local scholarships to a conservation “sleep-away” camp is only two days away.

The Town of Red Hook Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) for the 27th year is seeking applicants for the one-week state Department of Environmental Conservation Environmental Education Summer Camp.

The scholarships are sponsored by Red Hook VFW Post 7765. Applicants must be Town of Red Hook residents or attend Red Hook schools, and be between the ages of 11 to 13.

Applications are available at www.redhook.org/AdvisoryCommittees/ConservationAdvisoryCouncil.html.

They must be completed and returned to the Town Clerk or by email to msz36@hotmail.com by 4pm on March 29. The winners will be notified by April 12.

The camp is sponsored by and staffed by the state DEC. Activities combine recreational events, such as hiking and canoeing, with instruction on ecosystems and resources. DEC operates four residential camps: Camp Colby in Saranac Lake, Franklin County; Camp DeBruce in Livingston Manor, Sullivan County; Camp Rushford in Caneadea, Allegany County and Pack Forest in Warrensburg, Warren County.
