2 Rhinebeck High seniors named Merit Scholarship finalists

Rhinebeck High School seniors Carolyn R. Goldstone and Lauren C. Heller have been named finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

About 1.5 million juniors in 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, which represents less than 1 percent of all U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Approximately 15,000 semifinalists advance to the finalist level, and it is from this group that the scholarship winners are chosen.
