The Red Hook girls lacrosse team squashed New Paltz on their own field on April 17, beating them 16-4 and continued their history-long win streak against the Huguenots.
Red built an early lead, netting four goals in the first 10 minutes and working well on the fast break. Ball control is one of Red’s strengths this year. Team captain Lindsay Hobson scored three goals in the final 1:30 to help lead the team to a 10-2 halftime advantage; two of the goals were assisted by Olivia Bemis, another captain.
The Lady Raiders netted another three goals in the first five minutes of the second half. Red’s defense would stop two breakaway attempts by the Huguenots at 8:22 and 5:22; Red Hook head coach Yvonne Turchetti took the pedal off the floor after Bemis’ goal at 13:04, which would be the Lady Raiders’ final score of the game, and gave some of the starters some rest.
“In the second half, we were more focused and more intense, which led to better execution overall,” Turchetti told The Observer after the game.
Hobson led all scorers with six goals; Bemis led in assists with three.
