Arbor Day/Earth Day trees planted in Red Hook

Volunteers of all ages assisted in planting 17 trees at the Town of Red Hook’s Recreational Park to celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day April 27.

The celebration included a horse-drawn carriage ride to the Memorial Tree plantings for Marcy Appell and the Molinaro Family. There was a free hay ride, a luncheon for the volunteers and and vendors sold farm produce, composters, framed pictures, flowers and plants.

In addition, a tree-themed poster contest was held at the Mill Road Elementary School with over 500 entries. The winners received a book and certificate and had their winning poster displayed at the town hall.

The Tree Commission also gave away 100 free seedlings to local residents to plant.
