Volunteers of all ages assisted in planting 17 trees at the Town of Red Hook’s Recreational Park to celebrate Arbor Day and Earth Day April 27.
The celebration included a horse-drawn carriage ride to the Memorial Tree plantings for Marcy Appell and the Molinaro Family. There was a free hay ride, a luncheon for the volunteers and and vendors sold farm produce, composters, framed pictures, flowers and plants.
In addition, a tree-themed poster contest was held at the Mill Road Elementary School with over 500 entries. The winners received a book and certificate and had their winning poster displayed at the town hall.
The Tree Commission also gave away 100 free seedlings to local residents to plant.
