Returning Peace Corps volunteer Kelsey Ives spoke to the Rhinebeck Rotary Club at a recent weekly meeting at the Beekman Arms.
Ives served for 27 months in Costa Rica, teaching English as a second language in the school system in the small town of San Marcos. While serving as a Peace Corps volunteer, she also taught English to indigenous communities from the area and held classes for young people. She raised money that enabled her to build a building to house an English Language Institute for the people of San Marcos.
Currently, Kelsey works for the United Way of Dutchess County as their Coordinator of Volunteers before she heads off to the University of Pennsylvania for a Master’s Degree in Social Work.
The Rhinebeck Rotary Club meets on Mondays at 12:15pm throughout the year, and is a humanitarian organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of other through various projects locally, nationally, and internationally. For more information, call David Albahary at 914-244-0333.
