Red Hook filmmaker’s documentary in nationwide release

Documentary filmmaker and Red Hook resident Seth Kramer’s new movie, “Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie,” has just opened on nationwide release.

The film focuses on the controversial right-wing TV talk-show host who turned talk format into a gladiator pit in the late ’80s and earned him the title “Father of Trash Television.”

“Evocateur” features interviews with Herman Cain, Pat Buchanan, Chris Elliott, Gloria Allred, Sally Jessy Raphael, Alan Dershowitz, Curtis Sliwa, and Richard Bey. It also has never-before-seen footage reveals Downey’s behind-the-scenes fistfights and foibles.

“Evocateur” also features an exclusive interview with Steven Pagones, the white assistant district attorney accused in 1988 of raping black teenager Tawana Brawley.

Kramer produced and directed the film along with Daniel A. Miller, and Jeremy Newberger of Ironbound Films. They also directed the critically acclaimed, Emmy-nominated documentaries “The New Recruits” and “The Linguists,” which premiered at Sundance.
