Variances sought for Hoe Bowl conversion

The owners of a proposed assisted living facility at the site of the former Hyde Park Hoe Bowl applied for square-footage variances at the Hyde Park Zoning Board of Appeals meeting July 24.

Hoe Venture and Crystal House Manor are seeking scale changes from 7,500 square feet to 26,417 square feet, along with extra parking stalls in the Neighborhood Business District.

A request for a side yard change on the five-acre property at 394 Violet Avenue was withdrawn at the meeting.

A public hearing on the variances will be held at the next Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on Aug. 28 at 7pm at the Hyde Park Town Hall.

The new for-profit facility, to be called the Hyde Park Assisted Living Facility would house around 76 low-income seniors aged 62 and up. The building was constructed in the early 1960s after the original Hyde Park Hoe Bowl burned down.
