McDonald’s USA requested variances for nine different signs at their 4246 Route 9 location at the Hyde Park Zoning Board of Appeals meeting on July 24.
The fast-food chain is seeking to have more of its golden arches symbol instead of the word “McDonald’s” on the signs already approved by the Planning Board, saying because the company felt the symbols would be more easily recognized by motorists from 200-300 feet away. The company also cited pedestrian safety as a reason for the sign variances near the drive-thru lane.
The ZBA requested a full Environmental Assessment Form on the variances, and a written recommendation from the Planning Board. The ZBA scheduled a public hearing on the signs for its next meeting, Aug. 28 at 7pm at Town Hall.
