Red Hook man charged with 2 armed robberies at gas stations

A Red Hook man was arrested Aug. 6 in connection with two recent armed robberies at gas stations in Columbia County.

Mark J. Klawson, 29, was charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, a class C felony, after a four-week joint investigation involving the Columbia County district attorney, the state police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Livingston and Troop K’s Major Crimes Unit, a state police report said.

Klawson was arraigned in the Town of Livingston Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail pending future court appearances.

The investigation into the armed robberies continues, but one of the weapons used has been recovered, the state police said.

According to earlier police reports, an armed robber held up the Blue Stores Xtra Mart on Route 9 in Livingston on June 27 at 11:40pm. The suspect was armed with a silver/black semi-automatic pistol and wore a blue/green skull type mask, the report said.

Three weeks later, two armed robbers held up the Germantown Xtra Mart on Route 9G, which is 4.5 miles from the Blue Stores store. The robbers, armed with a long gun and a silver/black semi-automatic pistol, struck the store on July 17 at 11:30 pm and demanded money from the clerk, according to a state police report. The suspect with the pistol was wearing a skull-type mask, the police report said.

Both suspects were described at thin white males, between 5’8″ and 5’10″ tall.

Anyone with more information on the investigation should contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Livingston State Police: (518) 851-2001 or (518) 851-3111.
