The Hyde Park Democratic Committee held a party caucus July 19 to select candidates for our local fall races. The evening made me proud to be a Democrat, as my fellow voters once again chose nominees whom we considered the most qualified to represent and work for the town, regardless of political stripe.
Our current Supervisor, Aileen Rohr, and Ward 1 Councilwoman, Emily Svenson, were endorsed overwhelmingly, but we also unanimously re-nominated Ward 4 Councilman Ken Schneider, a Republican; Cindy Todd, for Receiver of Taxes, who is an independent; and current Highway Superintendent Walt Doyle, also a Republican. We were pleased to welcome highly qualified Democrats David Ray and Hannah Behrens for Wards 2 and 3, respectively.
While most political parties often instinctively back party members, I am glad to be part of a movement in our community that places loyalty to the town and its residents first.
Our candidates, who all have shown their commitment through volunteerism, are running as Team Hyde Park, and it’s the first word that tells it all: teamwork, not partisanship.
