Bard’s soccer team got beaten at home when a booming goal from Sage junior Gustavo Trinidad (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) lead the Gators to a 1-0 victory in a non-league game Sept. 3.
A ball played just above the Bard box was misplayed straight up, and after one bounce, Trinidad cracked a one-timer from 30 yards that beat Bard keeper Daniel Gagne (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to the upper left corner.
Bard had two solid opportunities to score. Freshman Austin Higgins (Toms Rivers, N.Y.) struck a high free kick that was pushed over the crossbar by Sage keeper Tim Madden (Watertown, N.Y.) in the 37th minute. In the second half, senior Christian Letourneau hit a bending shot from the left wing that went just wide of the far post in the 85th minute.
Madden made five saves for Sage, 1-0-1. Gagne made four saves for Bard.
The team was then shut out by Plattsburgh State, 4-0, on Sept. 7.
