Approximately 30,000 adult pheasants will be released on lands open to public hunting for the fall pheasant hunting season, which starts Oct. 1, according to the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation.
For the seventh consecutive year, junior hunters (12-15 years old) will get the opportunity to hunt pheasants the weekend before the hunting season opens. In this area, the youth pheasant hunt weekend is Sept. 28-29.
Local hunting areas include Milan’s Lafayetteville Multiple Use Area and Red Hook’s Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area.
All current pheasant hunting rules and regulations remain in effect during the youth hunt. Note that a 2012-13 hunting license is required to hunt during September, and a 2013-14 license is required starting Oct. 1.
