That was rough

Red Hook varsity volleyball needed a win against Saugerties on Sept. 26 at Red Hook’s Jack Lewis Gymnasium. With no wins and three losses in Mid-Hudson Athletic League play, the Lady Raiders were 2-4 coming into their game against a hot Saugerties team that was 4-3 coming into the game — and 5-3 going out.

In the first set, the Lady Raiders started strong, going shot for shot against a much taller Saugerties squad. After tying at 15, Saugerties took a steady lead, and in spite of a Red Hook rally toward the end that would bring them within a point of the win, the Raiders lost the set 25-23.

The situation did not improve early in the second set. Saugerties jumped to a 6-1 lead before Red Hook made a comeback. Actually, Saugerties made a comeback for them; some overzealous striker play and bad linework from the Sawyers gave Red the advantage in the set, which once again came down to the wire. This time, though, it was Red Hook coming out on top, for a 25-23 win.

After the second set, though, Saugerties had Red Hook keyed, and took the next two sets to finish 3-1.

Red Hook has a busy week ahead of them after the loss — they visit Wallkill on Oct. 1 at 4:15pm and New Paltz on Oct. 4 at 4:15pm.
