Volunteers are needed by the Hudson Valley CASH Coalition and AARP Tax-Aide to be tax preparers and client facilitators during the upcoming 2013 tax season.
Volunteer tax preparers will be trained to assist low- to moderate-income working families, individuals and seniors with free tax preparation services in the CASH Coalition and AARP Tax-Aide sponsored community program in more than 40 locations in Dutchess and Orange counties, according to a news release.
Interested tax preparers must have personal experience preparing taxes. The CASH Coalition works to ensure people receive all the tax credits and refunds they are eligible for, specifically the earned income tax credit.
Free training by AARP Tax-Aide for tax preparers will be provided in both counties during November and December. The training ends with an IRS and AARP tax-Aide certification.
Volunteers also are needed to act as client facilitators assisting those seeking tax help on site, and to help market the program or with personal computer technology issues. Minimal training will be held in January for these tasks. Work hours are flexible and some work can be done from home.
Both tax preparers and client facilitators set their own schedules and can work daytime, evening or weekend hours in their choice of locations. They can expect to provide 40 to 50 hours of service during the tax preparation period, which runs from February through April 15, 2014. Multilingual volunteers are encouraged to apply to assist the Spanish-speaking community.
