56 tee-up for libraries benefit

This was no mulligan. More than 50 golfers hit the links at Dinsmore State Golf Course Sept. 28 and raised $3,000 for the Hyde Park and Staatsburg libraries.

The Hyde Park Teachers’ Association sponsored the golf fundraiser and, they said, the community response from businesses and golfers was overwhelming.

Golf and a banquet dinner at the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant on the green brought 56 golfers to the event. Twenty-three local businesses were highlighted on the golf course for being library sponsors and 30 contributed gifts to be raffled and/or awarded to participating golfers.

Both libraries plan to use the money raised to support the children’s sections and expand on the materials already being used.

In a news release on the event, the Hyde Park Teachers’ Association said, “It has long been [our] mission… to find meaningful ways to serve the community and to teach this value to our students by example. The community’s help in this endeavor is irreplaceable. It has been an HPTA goal to promote business in our community and promote the education of our youth. The HPTA Golf Outing was a perfect collaboration between the teachers and the community to accomplish this goal.”
