The NAPA automotive parts store that stood vacant on South Broadway in Red Hook for more than two years now has a new owner.
In a process that took less than six months, the town Planning Board gave conditional site plan approval Dec. 2 to the Plimpton and Hill Corporation of Hartford, Conn. to renovate the existing structure for a retail/service center for plumbing, heating and HVAC products.
According to Plimpton and Hills owner Calvin Hills, the new business will deal in retail sales to contractors and the general public.
There are two phases to the site plan and only phase one has been approved by the planning board. Phase one will renovate the old building to start the retail business. Phase two calls for the construction of a two-story structure in front of the existing retail store, to include a showroom on the ground floor and residential units above it.
Rob Dupont, the architect for the renovation, said he will use earth tones on the front of the building to enhance the existing brick and build out the roof with cedar shingles. The six-panel windows will be replaced, reduced to five panels and re-glazed. The rear section, used only for storage and supplies, will be a neutral gray.
All the existing pavement in front of the building will be removed and replaced with a new driveway surrounded by landscaping. According to the engineer for the project, Mark Graminski, traffic will be channeled onto a 26-foot wide loop road accessing all sides of the structure. Parking will be available on the east and south sides of the building.
