Now that snow has arrived in earnest, the Town of Milan is asking residents to comply with one wintery law that many people might not know.
Highway superintendent Glenn Butler says that many residents or the contractors residents hire to plow their driveways are pushing the snow from the driveways into the roads and creating extra work for town plows.
Plowing snow into the road is illegal under state law and is also illegal under the town of Milan laws.
Because the town board thinks many people are not aware of the law, they plan to mail out notifications and share information on the town website to alert residents to the problem.
Once the warning is issued, the town plans to issue tickets to those who violate the law. Butler said the town isn’t sure how the ticketing process will work or how much the fine would be yet.
