2 LI men charged in Red Hook deli break-in

Two men from Long Island were arrested in connection with a night break-in at the Cornucopia Deli in Red Hook on Dec. 26. They were also charged with a break-in at a daycare center and the Page Home Center in LaGrange hours later. Arrested were , 26,of Central Islip, and , 31, of Massapequa.

According to a Red Hook police report, the deli, in Upper Red Hook on Route 9, was broken into at approximately 10:15pm when one man damaged the outside power supply with a sledge hammer. Two men then entered the business and took an unknown amount of cash before fleeing. A few hours later, at 12:45am, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a burglar alarm at the Page Home Center at 1387 Route 55, in the Town of LaGrange. Officers who responded saw a car fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. Additional deputies and a K-9 unit were dispatched, and the suspects split up, one stealing a car from a daycare center, before they were taken into custody at separate sites. Cash stolen from the Home Center was reportedly recovered.

According to a sheriff’s report, was charged with third-degree felony burglary and criminal mischief as well as fourth-degree felony grand larceny and third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor. was charged with third-degree felony burglary and unlawfully fleeing a police officer, a misdemeanor. Further charges may be added, the report said, and both were sent to the Dutchess County Jail.
