Hyde Park property owners have one good piece of news on the tax front: amidst a general increase in the property tax rate across the county, the county legislature has approved a lower rate for the town for 2014, bringing the rate to $5.89 per $1,000, down 4.5 percent from the current rate of $6.17 per $1,000.
Clinton’s rate, however, will be going up with most other towns. The new rate, $3.61 per $1,000, is a 4.6 percent increase over the 2013 rate of $3.45 per $1,000
In addition, there may be more good news for Hyde Park school taxes.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s budget proposal, which he unveiled Jan. 21, includes a general increase in school aid, which in Hyde Park may translate to a 4.24 percent increase, to $22,988,045, up from $22,053,547 this year. That’s apparently one of the highest increases being proposed.
Meanwhile, State Senator Terry Gipson will host a Tax Relief Town Hall on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 6 pm to 7:30pm in Hyde Park Town Hall.
Gipson will first talk about his legislative plans and priorities on tax relief, and then open the floor to a question-and-answer-session. All are welcome to come and take part in the event and are encouraged to bring specific questions on tax relief.
“I look forward to speaking directly with constituents who share the same concerns I do in regards to New York State’s current tax climate and, more specifically, the increasing burden of property taxes in the Hudson Valley. I remain committed to working with the citizens of the 41st Senate District to find the best solutions for real tax relief,” Gipson said in a news release.
