Violet Ave. gas station in Hyde Park held up; 2 men arrested

Two men from Poughkeepsie have been arrested on felony charges in connection with an armed robbery of the Sunoco station on Violet Avenue last night.

According to a Hyde Park Police report, officers received a call at 8:59pm Tuesday for a silent hold-up alarm at the gas station at 381 Violet Ave. Patrols arrived on scene within two minutes and confirmed with an employee that an armed robbery had just occurred. The clerk reported that a male entered the store and displayed a large knife, demanded money, then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash, the report said.

Using a Poughkeepsie K-9 unit, police officers were led to an apartment complex on School St., where they located two men in an apartment who matched the description of the suspects. Both were interviewed and then arrested, according to the report. The police recovered monetary proceeds, the weapon used during the robbery and clothing worn by the suspects, the report added.

The suspects, Dashawn T. Grant 23, and Sean T. Petrelli, 27, were charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor. They were arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $100,000 cash or $200,000 bail bond.
