Red Hook Community Arts Network gets literary for next exhibit

The Red Hook Community Arts Network is now looking for artists for its upcoming exhibition called “WordWorks 2014.”

The non-juried show will explore the use of book imagery and illustrations for specific books, actual artists’ books, and art using book materials or featuring the printed word.

This exhibit, which opens April 11 and runs through May 4, will kick off the “Read Local” Literary Festival.

The works will be displayed at the RHCAN gallery at 7516 N. Broadway, in Red Hook. All media, 2-D or 3D, are welcome, but the gallery has limited space for displaying 3-D work, so it’s helpful if you can provide a pedestal. All wall work must be properly framed and wired for hanging. No giclees or reproductions.

Each artist may submit 1-3 pieces. Submission fees are $10 for one work, $5 for a second one. The gallery will require that all participating artists volunteer for a 3.5-4 hour gallery-sitting shift during the exhibition, or pay an extra $30 on delivering your work, or provide a substitute sitter.

Drop-off dates are Mon., April 7 from 3pm to 5 pm and Tues., April 8 from 10am to noon. An artists’ reception will be held Fri., April 11 from 5pm to 7pm.

For more information, redhookcan@gmail.com. A copy of the full gallery agreement is available on the RHCAN website for download: www.rhcan.com. It can be printed out and completed in advance of drop-off.
