Annual Landsman Kill fishing contest kicks off April 5-6 in Rhinebeck

The Landsman Kill Stocking Club’s annual fishing contest, now in its 56th year, will start on April 5 and 6 and is open to all children ages 3-15 in the Rhinebeck School District.

Stocking Day, where volunteers of all ages help stock the stream where it passes Rhinebeck High School with 1,000 farm-raised trout, is April 5 starting 12:30pm. Registration is onsite at the high school and participants should bring their own bucket.

The fishing contest begins April 6 after a 6am kick-off breakfast hosted by the club at the American Legion Montgomery Post 429 hall at 6331 Mill St. Door prizes and instructions on the contest are given at the breakfast.

Fishing begins at 7am and runs for three weeks, culminating in a picnic with prizes for largest fish, most fish caught, most persistent fisher person, and a sportsmanship award that will include a week at a state DEC summer camp.

“Kids can participate at any point in the contest. Our goal is to get kids outside, learn another sport and appreciate our stream,” a news release from the club said.

All events are free, thanks to donations from the community, businesses, and the village and town of Rhinebeck. Contact Joan Winne with questions at 876-0677.
