‘Young Frankenstein’ musical at Rhinebeck High

The Rhinebeck High School stage will be transformed into the wilds of Transylvania when the Rhinebeck High School Drama Club presents its version of “Young Frankenstein: The New Mel Brooks Musical.”

Like the comedy film made in 1974 by Brooks and Gene Wilder, the show is a hilarious twist on the classic horror story, focusing on the exploits of Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced Fronkensteen), grandson of the legendary scientist, and his loyal assistant Igor (pronounced Eyegore).

It’s a madcap story of monsters and mayhem, based on the film’s screenplay with music and lyrics by Brooks. The score includes notable tunes like “Together Again for the First Time, “Please Don’t Touch Me,” “Join the Family Business,” and Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

With a cast and crew of nearly 70 students, the Rhinebeck High School production is directed by Vincent Nugent, with Grace Lalicki as vocal director, Laura Natalie as conductor; Roberta Andersen as choreographer, Linda Sutherland as accompanist, and Cynthia Baer as set designer.

The performances will be Fri., April 4 at 8pm; Sat., April 5 at 8pm and Sun., April 6 at 2pm. Reserved seats now available in the Rhinebeck High School main office or at the box office on the day of the performance. Tickets are adults $8, seniors and children 10 and under, $6.
