The Rhinebeck Rotary Club will honor two community leaders at its annual Service Above Self Awards and Recognition Dinner May 12 at The Rhinecliff Hotel.
Citizen of the Year recipients Jeanne Fleming and Pat Sexton will be lauded for their extensive volunteer work in the community. Also honored will be Paul Harris Fellowship awardees Michael Frazier, James O. Reardon, Bruce Troy and John Van Wormer.
Jeanne Fleming is known for creating a variety of events for Rhinebeck and the Hudson Valley, most notably Rhinebeck’s Sinterklaas celebration, which honors the Old Dutch legend and the spirit of community. She is also responsible for “Walking on Air,” the grand opening of the Walkway Over the Hudson, among many other innovative programs and festivals.
Pat Sexton has given extensively of her time and expertise to many area arts and educational projects, including the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, the Education Network for Teachers and Artists for the Rhinebeck Central School Districts, and the Rhinebeck-Rheinbach Musical Exchange Program. She also worked with Fleming on Sinterklaas and Walking on Air.
The Paul Harris Fellowship Award, named for the founder of Rotary, recognizes those who have demonstrated a shared purpose with the objectives and mission of The Rotary Foundation, which includes projects that save and invigorate the lives of people around the world and enhance international friendship and understanding.
Tickets to the dinner, which will be held from 6-9pm, are $70, or $700 for a reserved table of 10. Sponsorship packages, including program listings, ad pages and reserved tables, are also available at bronze, silver, gold and diamond levels.
