Shoving Leopard Farm at Rokeby Farm in Barrytown will be offering a 14-week fresh flower CSA this summer.
“The local flower and slow flower movement is catching up to the local food and slow food movement…Many of the same considerations about agricultural practices, transportation, and supporting local agricultural economies apply to floriculture. Buying flowers from a local grower, either directly or through a florist, ensures that your bouquet will be fresh and last longer than flowers that have traveled,” owner Marina Michahelles said in a news release.
Access to the pick your own all-flower labyrinth in the 2-acre garden at Rokeby is another benefit of membership. The season begins at the end of June and continues through hard frost in the fall. If shareholders also join the vegetable CSA offered by Starling Yards Farm, they will receive a $10 discount on the total membership fee. The flower CSA is $200 for the season, and the vegetable share is either $425 or $575.
The farm will also be providing flowers for weddings and events and selling them at local farmers’ markets. Visit www.shovingleopardfarm.org for more information.
