AN ALL-OUT EFFORT: 933 Haviland Middle School students and 200 staff members created a giant human pink ribbon in front of their school on Friday, Oct. 3, in support of breast cancer awareness. The students and staff wore pink T-shirts with slogans such as “Go Pink or Go Home” or “Fight like a Girl–Find a Cure,” The event marked the 11th consecutive year the school has promoted breast cancer awareness and once again was planned in conjunction with Lee National Denim Day. Staff members also participated by donating to the American Cancer Society, about $700 this year. The Roosevelt Fire Department brought the fire truck with a tall-enough boom to take a photo of the school’s effort.
