Elections officials continued opening absentee and affidavit ballots on Monday as the count continued at the Dutchess County Board of Elections and Democratic challenger Jessica Segal took the lead over her opponent, Republican incumbent Judge Peter Forman in the race for Dutchess County Court Judge.

Segal ended the day up by 776 votes with approximately seven thousand votes still to count, according to a source watching the count. However, those votes lean overwhelmingly Democratic and so Segal is assured a victory. A Hudson Valley Observer analysis of the ballots estimates she will win by over 2,000 votes.

Nationwide, mail-in ballots have leaned decisively left as more Democrats voted by mail while Republicans preferred to vote in-person during the COVID-19 pandemic. In Dutchess County, Democrats outnumbered Republicans more than two-to-one among the more than 30,000 absentee ballots returned.
