The Hyde Park Town Board adopted its $10,829,270 budget for 2021 in mid-November.

The budget increased by 2.11% over 2020 and calls for a 10-cent tax increase, to $7.20 per $1,000 of valuation. For the typical homeowner assessed at $120,000, property taxes in town will total $864 in 2021, an increase of $12, or 1.4%, which is within the tax cap.

“We’ve been getting good stuff done and still staying within the tax cap and have every intention of doing that again for 2021,” Town Supervisor Aileen Rohr said in a public meeting.

Most budget increases were the result of employee compensation and benefits, equipment and minor contractual expenses.

“We did have some savings this year,” said Comptroller Joanne Lown . “We refinanced three of our bonds and by refinancing them, we saved approximately $70,000 in 2021.”

Town officials anticipate bringing in additional staff for 2021 and have earmarked $5,000 of surplus funds for the 2021 budget.

Major projects for 2021 include building sidewalks in town — a project mostly funded by grant monies — and park improvements in Staatsburg’s Dinsmore Park.
