Dr. John King, Jr., New York State Commissioner of Education, met with members of Red Hook Central School District’s administrative team and Board of Education on August 17, 2011. Dr. King accepted an invitation from Superintendent Paul Finch to attend Red Hook’s annual summer leadership seminar. The discussion centered on the encouraging and the discouraging trends in public education. Dr. King shared his vision for, and concerns about, public education in New York State. Red Hook leaders shared reflections and anecdotes about the real world implications of decisions made at the state level. Both parties felt the dialogue was constructive and helpful as we all work to improve teaching and learning in New York State. The Red Hook Central School District would like to acknowledge Dr. King for taking the time to listen and speak candidly to local leaders.
