School board fills open seat with former board president

The Red Hook School Board voted Thursday to fill their open seat with Sean McLaughlin, a 12-year veteran of the board who served until stepping down earlier this year. McLaughlin had chosen not to run for re-election to the board this past May after serving as school board president for the last six years.

McLaughlin, 52, fills the seat formerly held by trustee Frank Knobloch who retired from the board in early September citing health reasons.

According to board president Kelly Mosher, the decision to reappoint Mr. McLaughlin to the board came down to a question of experience.

“We felt that as engaged and bright and enthusiastic as Ryan [McCann] and Dawn [Morrison] are, with a pretty tough year ahead of us budget-wise we felt that it would be a little easier if we had someone with experience instead of a third brand new board member in one year,” stated Ms. Mosher.

The appointment will stand until next May when the seat will be up for election.

“When I was asked if i would consider serving again, I certainly wanted to help out however I could,” shared Mr. McLaughlin. “I look forward to working with the group and I think the district is a great district. It’s short term so it worked out pretty well for me.”

“We’re excited to work with him again,” added trustee Johanna Moore. “He brings a wealth of information to the table and a history that serves each one of us very well. We’re proud to have him back.”
